General psychology
Look at the psychology questions you want to study and the research training available. Check the program’s exact category before comparing schools.
14 of 20 pilot schools reported bachelor’s-level records in this subject in 2023–24. 14 have published annual earnings for this subject.
A historical category record is not today’s admissions catalog. Check a school’s official directory before applying.
Before you chooseGeneral psychology or a named specialization?
This page covers general psychology (42.01). Research and experimental psychology (42.27), and clinical, counseling and applied psychology (42.28), are different federal categories. A school may teach psychology through one of those other categories and therefore be absent from this list.
What research training is required?
Compare the catalog’s methods and statistics sequence, laboratory options and final project or thesis. Check which experiences are required and which need a separate application.
What is your next educational step?
If you have a graduate program or regulated profession in mind, check its own entry and licensing requirements. A bachelor’s category record does not verify eligibility for that next step.
Does the income population match your question?
These earnings describe federally aided completers who worked and were not enrolled during measurement. They cannot tell you the earnings of every graduate or the experience of students still studying.
These are research prompts. School-specific requirements need official verification. Definitions checked against NCES CIP 2020: Psychology, General (42.01).

About this category and these numbers
Psychology, General · CIP 2020 · 42.01 · Bachelor’s degrees
Offering records group matching six-digit CIP program codes under this four-digit category. A recorded zero first-major awards count can still indicate an offered program. An awards count is not enrollment, admission capacity or a graduation rate.
Field-category earnings cover federally aided completers who worked and were not enrolled during measurement. Completion years: 2017–18 and 2018–19; earnings measured in 2022 and 2023; adjusted to 2024 dollars. They do not describe all graduates or promise future earnings.
Some earnings are shared across a federal reporting group. These are not independent campus results, and historical membership has not been reconstructed. Suppressed values remain unpublished; no salary-based eligibility filter is applied.

How to read this early directory
1. Choose a subject and study route
We look for a bachelor’s-level record in this subject. A school can report a subject with zero degrees awarded that year. No matching record does not prove the subject is unavailable today.
2. Compare the available figures
Income and program records cover different student groups and years. Withheld income is not zero. Group income cannot identify an individual campus, and school-wide costs are not a price for a major.
3. Verify the next step
Each listed school has an official academic directory link. Use that source to check current programs and entry requirements; the federal record alone cannot establish today’s availability.
Sources, dates and sample selection
- Program records
- Academic year 2023–24 (July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024). IPEDS provisional file, released September 2025. Federal subject classification: CIP 2020.
- Students completed their degrees
- 2017–18 or 2018–19. These are different students from the program-record year above.
- Annual income measured
- 2022 or 2023, four years after completion. Only federally aided completers working and not enrolled when measured are included.
- Inflation adjustment
- Income amounts are adjusted to 2024 dollars: a common purchasing-power basis, not the year students graduated or earned the income.
- Income source released
- College Scorecard field-of-study file, June 10, 2026.
- What is up to date?
- This pilot uses the audited 2023–24 record. NCES has announced a newer 2024–25 completions release; its files are not yet integrated. Source and official-directory checks: . A page rebuild does not refresh these records.
- Why these 20 schools?
- The sample includes public, nonprofit and for-profit schools, small and large institutions, specialist colleges and shared campus reporting groups. It also includes missing and suppressed-data cases. This early directory covers only these selected schools. It is not a ranking, a complete directory or a nationally representative sample.
Compiled by The Grade File using automated data processing and AI-assisted development and drafting. Source checks and consistency tests support the directory; university-specific requirements still need official verification.
