Which one do I need?

Work backwards from your question. "What do I need on the final?" — thefinal grade calculator, which solves for the exam score your target requires. "What's my grade right now?" — thegrade calculator, which weights homework, quizzes and tests the way your syllabus does; its result feeds straight into the final-grade question."What will my semester grade be?" — thesemester grade calculator blends quarter grades with the exam at its real weight. "What letter is this score?" — theletter grade calculator, including how far the next boundary is. For anything with custom weights — survey data, prices, lab sections — theweighted average calculator is the general tool underneath them all, and teachers grading a stack of papers get thetest grade calculator, a digital EZ Grader.

The one formula behind all of it

Every tool in this cluster is a weighted average wearing different clothes: scores times weights, summed, divided by total weight. The reference table above is that formula's most useful corollary — at a 20% final, five exam points move your course grade one point, which is why a 40% final feels so different from a 10% quiz-replacement. Once you internalize the ratio for your syllabus, you can sanity-check any calculator, including ours. Results save in your browser between visits, and the tools cross-link where students actually move: from current grade to required final, from a locked target back toyour GPA once the grade posts.

Frequently asked questions

Which grade calculator should I use?

If you're asking 'what do I need on my final?', use the Final Grade Calculator. To find your current standing from homework, quizzes and tests, use the Grade Calculator. Combining quarter grades and an exam into a semester grade is the Semester Grade Calculator; converting a score to a letter is the Letter Grade Calculator; and teachers grading stacks of papers want the Test Grade Calculator (EZ Grader).

How do I figure out what I need on my final?

Required final = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. At 88% with a 40% final, reaching 90% overall needs a 93 on the exam. The final grade calculator does this instantly, with what-if sliders and a scenario table for every letter grade.

How are weighted course grades calculated?

Multiply each category's score by its syllabus weight, sum the products, and divide by the total weight: homework 92 at 20%, quizzes 85 at 20%, midterm 88 at 25% gives (92×20 + 85×20 + 88×25) ÷ 65 = 88.3% for the graded portion so far.

Do teachers and students use the same math?

Same arithmetic, opposite directions. Students combine category scores into a course grade; teachers convert raw scores into percentages for a whole class at once. That's why the EZ Grader works from questions wrong and produces a full chart, while student tools work from percentages and weights.
