Nursing

Identify the nursing pathway that matches your starting point before comparing costs or earnings. The broad category does not identify your admission route.

14 of 20 pilot schools reported bachelor’s-level records in this subject in 2023–24. 12 have published annual earnings for this subject.

A historical category record is not today’s admissions catalog. Check a school’s official directory before applying.

Before you chooseWhich nursing pathway matches your starting point?

CIP 51.38 includes registered nursing, administration, research and clinical nursing categories. Our list is restricted to bachelor-level records, but the code alone does not establish whether a particular route accepts new nursing students or requires prior qualifications.

  1. Who is this particular route designed for?

Use the official program page to check its entry qualifications. RN-to-BSN means a bachelor’s completion route for registered nurses. Check the required prior qualifications before adding it to a first nursing-degree shortlist.

  2. Where and how is the program completed?

Ask about required clinical placements, attendance locations, schedules and any program-specific costs. A university-level online label cannot answer those questions for the route you want.

  3. What professional requirements does it support?

Verify current program approval, accreditation and any licensing eligibility with the institution and the relevant official bodies. This directory’s federal category record is not evidence of those approvals.

These are research prompts. School-specific requirements need official verification. Definitions checked against NCES CIP 2020: Nursing category (51.38).

About this category and these numbers

Registered Nursing, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing · CIP 2020 · 51.38 · Bachelor’s degrees

Offering records group matching six-digit CIP program codes under this four-digit category. A recorded zero first-major awards count can still indicate an offered program. An awards count is not enrollment, admission capacity or a graduation rate.

Field-category earnings cover federally aided completers who worked and were not enrolled during measurement. Completion years: 2017–18 and 2018–19; earnings measured in 2022 and 2023; adjusted to 2024 dollars. They do not describe all graduates or promise future earnings.

Some earnings are shared across a federal reporting group. These are not independent campus results, and historical membership has not been reconstructed. Suppressed values remain unpublished; no salary-based eligibility filter is applied.

Other pilot schools: 6 without a matching category record

These schools are outside the result list for this category. A missing historical record does not establish whether a school offers the program today.

How to read this early directory

1. Choose a subject and study route

We look for a bachelor’s-level record in this subject. A school can report a subject with zero degrees awarded that year. No matching record does not prove the subject is unavailable today.

2. Compare the available figures

Income and program records cover different student groups and years. Withheld income is not zero. Group income cannot identify an individual campus, and school-wide costs are not a price for a major.

3. Verify the next step

Each listed school has an official academic directory link. Use that source to check current programs and entry requirements; the federal record alone cannot establish today’s availability.

Why these 20 schools?
The sample includes public, nonprofit and for-profit schools, small and large institutions, specialist colleges and shared campus reporting groups. It also includes missing and suppressed-data cases. This early directory covers only these selected schools. It is not a ranking, a complete directory or a nationally representative sample.

Compiled by The Grade File using automated data processing and AI-assisted development and drafting. Source checks and consistency tests support the directory; university-specific requirements still need official verification.
